So along with Rory, Penny and Jersey we have new boy Mack! Mack is a two year old West Highland Terrier! Now…he is a wee bitty overweight but that wont last long now that he’s joined Bishopton dog walking services. Since we only walk highly sociable and friendly dogs that can be let off lead, the first walk with Mack on Friday was an assessment to see how he would get on with the other dogs. Mack’s never been out with anyone apart from his owners so at first he was a bit nervous in the car but as we collected more...

But being so young he can only get a limited time off lead which makes socialising him and pups generally hard. So last week I was looking online and found a puppy carrier…now this means I can take Ruffles and other pups on big walks where they can be let off lead and play with the other dogs and after a short while put into my chest harness. Even being in there means Ruffles can still get...
read moreAccidents happen and illness can occur anytime, usually in the most inappropriate place or when the cause is no longer apparent. I have lost count of the number of times over the years I have had to perform first aid on a dog, not always mine and on more occasions than one I’ve had to get first aid myself afterwards! It is important to remember, not always easy in a panicky situation, that dogs cannot tell us where the pain is, why it is there or how acute it is. Their only defence is to bite, howl or retreat, especially if trying to...
read moreI do everything I can to give the best service to the wonderful dogs I’m lucky enough to walk. I don’t want to give the dogs just a toilet break, I want to give them a great time, where they can run free and enjoy the company of other friendly dogs and hope that once they get home they are relaxed, have had a good time and sleep until their owners come home. So below are some pics I took of Penny and Skye in the back seat of my estate just after a walk. When I pick up Penny and Skye they usually try to start their shenanigans...
read moreYesterday along with Penny and Skye I took out new dog Rex. Rex is a staffie with maybe another breed mixed in. He was re-homed last May and is estimated to be about 2-3 years old. He’s a great dog and is very fast and loves to run. He loves plastic bottles and for some reason very large rocks! People who know Penny and Skye know they are very socialised and friendly dogs, apart from being best friends they adore other dogs and always welcome a new member with open arms! Some...

These dogs haven’t always fought. Until recently, they’ve been good friends and pack mates. However, during thee last few weeks as one growls at the other, a fight begins. Neither dog is a spayed, one is a three year old female; the...

I’ve been taking him to the beach for his first puppy visit of the day every time I see him. His confidence is growing all the time and today we actually joined a small group of dogs and ruffles played with them which was just fantastic to watch! It’s the first time he’s been out with me that he’s played with other dogs...
read moreBy Kizkiznobite What is in a dog? When choosing a puppy or a rescue it is important to understand the genetics that make up the dog, after all s/he is hopefully going to be with you a long time. One of the biggest mistakes that folk make is to go on looks only…but all pups are cute and all rescues behind those bars have a ‘take me home’ look. The more research you do on the breeds you like the look of the more you will understand what needs you will have to provide. Dogs are grouped into ‘types’. The Kennel Club (UK) has 7...
read moreby Sarah Telford “It’s a dog’s life”. Surprisingly this saying means it’s a tough life, although when I look at my dog’s life, it is one of bliss and relaxation. I’m sure you can sympathize with that when you look at your pets! Wouldn’t it be nice, just for a week to live a life like your pet does? Eating, sleeping as much as you want, maybe a treat here and there, being taken out to visit your friends and have a nice bit of fresh air and exercise and best of all, no worries!..…Well we can...
read moreCountless dogs are restricted to a lunge or leash, many are re-homed or worse, because their owners can’t stop them hunting or have allowed it to happen so often the dog thinks it is the way to be. Many dog trainers tell them that ‘It’s a recall problem, more management and cue fluency needed’ and that will certainly help, but there is more to the hunt than that, and humans need to understand the root drives of the hunt in order for behavioural re-modification to work. To understand the concept of the hunt we need to go into the dogs...
