I have 4 clumbers and a springer, so in total we are looking at a total 165 kilo of dog!
Yesterday on Tesco’s sell off shelf there was 2 packs of pig liver and 1 pack of sliced heart with a total price £2.10. In the fridge I had a sorry looking neep that wasn’t used on burns night alongside some rather wilted carrots and half a bag of sorry looking mange tout and some left over mash tatties.
I diced the meat, diced the veg and chucked it all in the dog’s stock pot. I then added a cup of water with a couple of tablespoons...

Pigs head!
We often get pig heads. Sometimes they come cut in half but often a whole head. If you are not squeamish then they really are an ideal source of dog meat…lets face it…not so many years ago the components of a pig’s head was thought of as good human food. I and my sisters certainly grew up eating it and the dogs got what we couldnt/didnt eat. Brawn, tongue, cheeks, homemade haslet etc…if you haven’t had braised pig cheeks in a thick brown gravy with mash you have missed a real tasty dish and as a...

Recipe by Kizkiznobite.
Lites are animal lungs and sold as offal…they are used in haggis and in faggots and often minced and added to pork for sausages…they are a main food used in tinned dog food, but as tinned dog food is 80% water you are paying a high price for a very cheap source of meat…think about this…if you pay £1 per tin then you are paying 80p for the water and 20p for the meat content and and vegetable scraps added…as an average they are composed of 75% good quality protein and 25% easily digestible...

I was seeing a new client today who lives in Erskine, so afterwards I nipped into Morrisons to get some shopping and the ingredients to make some liver cake. I’ve put my liver cake recipe on the website (you can find it here). But I’d been thinking if I could cook them in a cupcake tray rather than a big slab using a baking tray. So I bought a cupcake tray for £1 and thought I may as well blog the attempt to make … liver cupcakes!
Let’s do this!
Since I’ve put the recipe for liver cake on the website...

The truth is homemade dog treats are a whole lot healthier, cheaper and tastier than the treats you buy in pet shops. Pork scratchings are a great dog treat. So easy to make, no cooking skills required and cheap as chips. I buy the pork rind from Morrisons supermarket for about 50p – 80p a pack, best times to find them at my store is Saturdays. But if you know a nice butcher and are friendly then you could get it for free.
I made this last week and wasn’t sure how the dogs would like it but after giving a piece to my own...

My first attempt at a homemade dog biscuit recipe.
Well I’m attempting to do some homemade cooking again. Crumbs…..scary stuff, stand back!!
I wanted to make a simple, cheap to make biscuit and I’ve been checking out dog biscuit recipes online. They vary so much and it’s difficult to find a similar theme with many looking like they are being cooked for humans rather than dogs. Anyway, I’ve got some flour and I went for the wholemeal flour and instead of margarine I thought I go for beef dripping as a...

Homemade liver cake recipe.
Right, a super simple step by step guide on making the world’s best dog treat. It’ll create a lot of treats.
I make the mixture in 2 batches cause it would be a bit too much to try to blend all at once. Once cooked put it in the freezer until needed. No need to defrost, there’s very little water content so can be eaten by your dog straight away. I made liver and kidney cake a few weeks ago and thought this would turn out the same, but it was different. It was crispier, lighter and not as...

Made them for the first time the other day for a gala day I was attending. Made the night before the gala I was a bit nervous if they would even turn out ok, but I needn’t have worried, this recipe is bullet proof and its hard to get it wrong. So it turned out really well. More like a cake/bread like texture than biscuit. This is done generally using just liver but I was low on liver and had some kidney so put that in too. I don’t have exact guidelines for doing this but there is not much too it, just prepare and chuck it...

Well, you need a Kong for this, but they can be bought in any good pet shop or online and are pretty cheap. This is a really great way to settle down your dog and give him something to do and focus on. So if the family has all settled down for the evening but your dog hasn’t or you’ve got family or friends over and want some peace to talk to them then keep reading.
RECIPE
If you feed your dog dried food (kibble) then place some kibble into the Kong first, then fill the Kong up with Brussels pate to very near the top of the Kong....
