jamie the dog walker

By Jamie Shanks

BDWS is owned and run by me, Jamie Shanks. I’ve been a professional dog walker since 2010. When I’m not walking dogs, I’m usually at home (like everyone else) entertaining my two dogs and attending to six hens.

    • Hi, well you wouldn’t be able to walk dogs during the day cause of school so it would be evenings or weekends for you. So most if not all of your clients would be those that want their dog walked either to spend some time with other dogs or to give it a good walk now and again cause they can’t for whatever reason, or maybe cause they want to go out with the kids and leave the dog knowing you can walk it.

I’m not sure why your parents would have a problem with it unless they are unsure of dogs themselves, if so tell them you want to offer puppy services, like walks and puppy visits etc, rather than dog services. Tell them you’d like to try it just to see if you could make it work and get some extra pocket money from it, it won’t be very easy for you to be honest as most if not nearly all dog owners want their dog walked during lunchtime during the working week. You could offer other services like cat visits (and other small pets) and visit those animals before and after school, that would most likely be a lot easier to get work.

Actually, it might be easier to offer small animal and cat visits for the time being and then take on dog walking once you leave school, can drive etc.

  3. This is great thank you. Should an off lead disclaimer be a separate document? Thanks

I saw someone asked if the forms are ok to use in the UK, didn’t see a reply….are they ok for the UK?

    • yeah, its really just a liability form and the most important part is getting written permission that dog can be let off lead, should you want to and letting client know what is their and what is your responisbility, eg if dog gets hurt and its not your fault, just an accident, you are not responsible etc.

  9. Thank you so much for this help. I am about to start my dog walking and pet sitting business and when you are starting you are quite short in budget and without doubt this is such a great push.

  11. Thank you for these templates, they are really helpful. Just wanted to check if they are ok to use In England as I know Scotland has different rules?!

    • That will have to do more with your insurance policy than actual laws. They should be fine. They are mainly just liability and info forms.

  12. Thank you so much for providing these excellent templates – so generous and thoughtful of you!
