A homemade travel sickness rememdy for dogs
Add ginger to biscuits and you can make a delicious dog treat. Ginger has been known for a long time to be very effective in combating motion sickness in dogs as well as people. These biscuits are easy to make and dogs think they are very tasty whether they're traveling or not! Because we are making gingerbread men, I'm using a gingerbread man biscuit cutter, you can buy here if you need one.
METHOD

Add 85g (3oz) of peanut butter to a bowl!

Add 4 tablespoons of hot water to bowl

Give it a good mix

Already the dogs are wondering what's getting made...

Add 170g (6oz) of self raising flour to bowl

Add two teaspoons of ginger

Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Now add a little water, just enough to make a dough, roll up your sleeves and really mix

Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and preheat oven to 200°C

Cut out biscuits and place on baking tray

Cook for 15-20 mins until golden brown

Just made these for my dogs. They smell so good that my daughter wants to try them as well!
Thank you. Got a doodle who is sick going just a few miles up the road in the car. Hoping these will help.
Just found your website after someone at a recent dog show told us about your recipes. The lady gave our German Shepherd a piece of liver cake and she loved it so am about to make some!! She doesn’t travel too good (drools terribly) so am going try her with the gingerbread biscuits too. Thanks
Hi, dogs love your snaps thanks. Am going on holiday, how long do these keep & how best to store.
Many thanks
Just made some Gingerbread Greyhounds for the Somerset GRWE show – they look great and Teddie (greyhound) thinks they’re yummy. Thank you for a super recipe
my dog gets really car sick how long before a journey should I give her these biscuits.
Hey!
Try 30 mins before you leave. I’ve had a few dogs that suffer from travel sickness. One remedy is a good run before travelling. Tbh, if it was my dog, I’d exercise it, then car drive, somewhere nice to walk with dog, car drive, somewhere else nice and do this for a few days.
Jamie
Does anyone know how many of these biscuits a small whippet puppy with travel sickness should be given? And how long before the journey?
Didn’t have any little men cutters so used small bone and ‘Setter’ shape cutters. Met with a little suspicion at first but now my IRS loves these.
what is the store life in this xx
They are the longest lasting treats on my website. I know they can last two weeks in a jar.
Oh nooo!! I’ve just ran out of self raising flour and i want to try these!! Grrr!! 🙂
Will need to remember to check the bible of Jamie before baking in future!
Did you get by without or did you buy some C? Pic from you FB page looks great!
I found a rogue bag that had fallen to the back of the cupboard and had just enough to make these! The dogs loved them and the people at dog club thought they smelled great! A nice change from the usual pongy liver and tuna cakes we usually have smelling out our pockets. Waggy tails all around 🙂
Great recipe, my little cocker spaniel loves these. Made them by cutting out shapes using the end of an apple corer, so they made good little bite size treats for training too. Thank you 🙂
Thanks Michelle! 🙂
Hi, was wondering if you use powdered ginger or fresh?
Regards
Looks like powdered from the pictures Di. I’m going to make these for my sister’s dog who gets really car sick, might even keep a few for my own dog too!!
Powdered, but either or…
