Scout Walks the Scout Trail

Scout’s First Group Walk Since February

This week, from Tuesday to Friday, I have Scout, an 11-year-old white Cocker Spaniel. I don't walk Scout very often, usually when her owner is away on holiday and there isn't anyone at home to take her out. Sometimes I might have her for a week once a year, although there can be a much longer gap between visits.

Scout always seems to follow the same routine when she comes back. She's not particularly keen on her first walk and would rather go home, but by the end of the week she's  much happier dog and is enjoying her walks. I normally keep her on lead for the first 2 or 3 days until I feel comfortable letting her off.

Today I took her to Finlaystone with Winnie, Hamish, Perfect, Potiphar and Hudson. Once we got into the woods I let Scout off lead to see how she would get on, but she soon started walking the trails a bit too quickly for the rest of us!

I put her back on lead for a while, then tried her off again, but she was soon marching ahead once more, so back on lead she went. I didnt take many more photos after Scout went on lead the second time - the camera requires both hands!

It will probably take a few walks for her to properly relax again, but for her first group walk in a good while I thought she did pretty well. Since I have her for a few days, I'll try to blog her walks as the week goes on and hopefully you'll see her confidence growing.

Need help getting the dog walked?
